The Miracle Morning Routine

The Big Idea Behind The Miracle Morning

Get up an hour earlier than you normally do to make time for the Miracle Morning routine – activities that will make your life better and ensure you have a great day.

Hal Elrod calls these activities the “Life SAVERS” – which stands for Silence, Affirmation, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing.

When should you wake up?

Hal recommends setting your alarm to at least 1 hour before you normally wake up.

In my case I would typically set my alarm to 7 am, so now I set the alarm to 6 am.

What are the steps of the Miracle Morning routine?

Prepare the Night Before

  • Set your alarm clock to your intended wake up time.
    • Make sure the alarm clock is out of your reach so that you will need to get up in the morning in order to turn it off.
  • Set the intention to wake up at the intended time.

Get Yourself Awake and Alert

  • Turn on the light.
  • Get up straight out of bed as soon as you wake up.  Don’t laze around in the bed.
  • Drink at least 1-2 glasses of water.  You are usually a bit dehydrated when you wake up.
  • Wash your face.
  • Put on sports clothes.
  • Brush your teeth and rinse with mouth wash.

Now you should be bright and alert and ready to start the Miracle Morning SAVERS!

  • S stands for Silence
    • Meditation or prayer
  • A stands for Affirmations
    • Read your affirmations out loud.
  • V stands for Visualization
    • Visualize your ideal life or daily routine.
  • E stands for Exercise
    • Can be any type of exercise – from gentle stretching to vigorous running, whatever feels good for you.

    • Read some pages of a book or something inspirational.
  • S stands for Scribing.

In the “standard” Miracle Morning you would spend about 10 minutes on each of these activities for a total of 60 minutes.

However, you can allocate the time differently between these activities in whatever way suits you.

How long does the Miracle Morning take?

Typically Hal recommends 1 hour, but it can be any length of time.

You might find that you want to wake up even earlier to have more time for your morning routine.

If you are pressed for time you can even compress down the miracle morning routine down to as little as 6-minutes.

The Miracle Morning 30 Day Challenge

Hal recommends if you are going to try this to do this for at least 30 days so that you can ingrain this new habit and routine.

Final Thoughts And How This Impacted My Life

I had heard of the Miracle Morning for a long time and was quite skeptical of a book whose only premise is a morning routine.

And I am NOT a morning person so the idea of waking up earlier was very unappealing to me.

After reading the book I was really pleasantly surprised and took this on as a challenge for myself.

I already did some of these activities – in particular meditation and journaling. Exercise was quite haphazard recently.

What the Miracle Morning did for me was to give me more time to do these healthy activities and to give me a structure in which to do them.

Since I’ve read the book 2 weeks ago I’ve been doing the Miracle Morning routine every day and loving it!  As part of the routine I’ve been doing a slow run (nearly) every morning for 2km (about 12 minutes) and just having done that and overcome that “challenge” already sets me up for a winning day.

In fact, I have already gifted the book to my close family and friends. So as you can see I endorse this Miracle Morning book very highly!
